What inspires you?
People who overcome insurmountable odds. The human spirit is amazing and I am constantly inspired by people who put one foot in front of the other when that seems impossible to me.
How do you think other people describe you?
What an interesting question - I don't really know so I should ask. Since I have to guess, I will say "the problem solver" as my friends call me "Olivia" (as in Olivia Pope from the TV show Scandal). I'm the one everyone calls when they have a sticky situation at work, or with clients, or in their personal lives. I enjoy helping others and mentoring those in my industry so I think it all goes together.
What do you like to do in your free time?
If I have enough time, my favorite thing is to take my dogs to the beach and let them run free and play ball. If I'm short on time, my second favorite is anything that involves my (grown) son and/or dogs - going to a movie together, going to dinner together, going kayaking, etc.
What is your favorite food?
Ice Cream - no question
What is your favorite restaurant?
Casanova on 5th Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Ca
What’s the most interesting thing about you that most people don’t know?
My parents were with the Ice Capades when I was born and I spent the first 18 months of my life traveling with them in the ice show. We then settled down in Southern CA and I became a competitive ice skater.
At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?
What was your favorite TV show when growing up?
"Eight is Enough" which was on ABC from 1977 to 1981. I was an older teen then but I loved that show. Being an only child, I always wanted a family like they had. I even named my son after one of the characters on the show.
Can you play any instruments? If so, which ones?
Piano (not very well anymore)
What is your superpower?
Seeing through people's bull....
You find a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million. What would you do?
Buy a house in Carmel, CA - immediately!
Who is your female hero?
What charity(s) are you involved with?
American Cancer Society - I have been a member of the Partnership Counsel since 2009 and devote most of my time to their annual golf tournament which typically raises over $200,000. All of that money stays local for programs and research that benefits our community.
What local community change would you like to see?
There is still a disparity between men and women in the workplace in Sacramento where men are given jobs that women are passed up for (same qualifications) and/or men are paid more than women (same job, same qualifications). I would like to see Sacramento embrace an initiative that ripples through our community to level the playing field on gender, race and other classes.
Areas of Interest
Being a mentor in areas related to marketing, business development, business strategy, etc. I would like to have a mentor to help guide me on how to structure and grow my small company. I would love to be part of a mentoring circle - that sounds amazing. And I will gladly help with planning of any events as my time permits.
Who in Sacramento (business, government, nonprofit, etc.) would you like to see as the focal person for a Table for 10 event? List as many women as you’d like.
Rob Turner - Editor of Sactown Magazine (I didn't ask him before I typed this). He is the best conversationalist I know. He can talk about any subject intelligently and he asks thought provoking questions. Every time I have had the pleasure of his company for lunch or dinner, I learn something new and walk away with more hope for Sacramento.
Are there other types of events or services you’d like to see WomenUp offer?
Workshop on how to negotiate your salary as a new hire, and how to ask for a raise if you are currently employed. I think women need to be more confident in this area.
Is there some skill you’d like to offer to provide for the benefit of WomenUp members?
Anything related to business-to-business networking, marketing or business development.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Let's be the change we want to see in our commu
